Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta, beginning with her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Early on, her father was interested in theatre. As a college pupil at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he took part in numerous performances. He joined the military in 1953. During his time being stationed at Biloxi Mississippi, was cast in the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the air force. The couple got married in 2005 and had their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter along with his wife were discharged from the military in, when they enrolled Walter as a student at Tulane University. Walter worked with Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. The family moved in 1960 and moved in Decatur Georgia. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of the local Sunday morning children's show, Bum Bum and His Buddies. In the following year, they established the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. They were joined by Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) and Julia (also also known as Julie) at the time.
